「英語」というものの背後にあるいくつかの学の体系のうち、英語教育学、英語学、言語学、異文化理解などを専攻するわれわれ筆者は、長野保健医療大学共通教養科目の１つである「医学英語」を担当している。一般に言われる「英語の教師」であって「医学・医療」そのものを専門としているのではないため、授業を行うための教材研究には労力を要する。他方、医学・医療と英語を関係づける学会に「日本医学英語教育学会」があり、日本の医学・医療の国際化を普遍的に推進することを目的にしている。またこの学会が主催する英語検定試験も行われており、日本の医学・医療の状況を世界に発信し、世界の状況を受信する上で必要かつ実用的なコミュニケーション能力の向上を目指している。しかし、英語という言語を扱いの対象とする以上、「医学英語」にも言語の実用的価値だけでなく、言語に付着する教養的価値もあるはずである。本稿では、「医学英語の背景」、「医学英語の英語学的側面」、「医学英語教育」といった「医学英語」の教養的側面を取り上げ論じることにする。 |

The authors of this paper major in cultural and academic backgrounds or aspects of English language, such as English linguistics, general linguistics, English language education, and intercultural communication, and at the same time, teach medical English in Nagano University of Health and Medicine. Indeed, we are so-called English teachers, and so our major is not medical science itself. Therefore, we need a lot of preparation for our classes. There is an academic society called “The Japan Society for Medical English Education” which aims to enhance medical students’ proficiency in English, based on Japan Medical English Education Guidelines. It is true that this society plays an important role in developing practical English ability in the field of medical science. However, since even medical English is English language itself, it should also have cultural and academic backgrounds or aspects with it. In this paper, we refer to “Historical Background of Medical English”, “English Linguistic Aspects of Medical English”, and “Medical English Education” from our own viewpoints respectively. |
