| 内容記述 | EFL環境にある日本の英語教育において、日本人学習者が英語を理解し運用する上で、困難である又は誤りやすい文法項目がいくつかある。基本的には、英語にある文法・語彙範疇や発想が日本語にはない、あるいは1対1の完全対応をしない場合である。その中でも日本人学習者が特に苦しめられてきたのは「仮定法」である。 その理由はいくつか考えられるが、「仮定法」が日本語に完全対応する文法範疇でないという理由以外には、「仮定法」の英語史上の複雑な変化が文法学者に多様な記述的立場を生み出したためだと考えられる。そのため、複雑な変化を背負う現代英語の「仮定法」の記述が、言語形式、意味、時制の点で複雑となり、学習者の理解を妨げてきた。 そこで本稿ではまず、日本人学習者の中でも特に、「仮定法」を初めて学習する高校生の理解を促進するために、「仮定法」の内容を学校文法の立場から整理し、その指導のポイントを考察する。次に、「仮定法」を用いる数多くの項目の中でも、日本人学習者が特に理解しにくいと思われるas if 構文を取り上げ、その指導のポイントを考察する。 |

| 内容記述 | This paper discusses how the subjunctive mood and the as-if subjunctive clause should be taught to senior high school English students in the Japanese context. Because the subjunctive mood has no counterpart in Japanese, it and one of its usages, the as-if subjunctive clause, are among the most difficult grammatical items for Japanese learners of English, especially high school students learning them for the first time. Accordingly, we arrange some target usages of the subjunctive mood and the as-if subjunctive clause progressively so that they can be as easily understood as possible. Then, we grammatically analyze each of those usages, discussing how to teach each and, indeed, whether it should be taught at all. |
