Also, research shows that information and communication technology (ICT) have supported some positive aspects of collaborative learning. In this study the authors examined in an exploratory way what effect collaborative learning using ICT would have on students improving their writing. Approximately 60 high school students in two classes were assigned an 80-word writing task with the subject: what would you do if you were given a time machine? Students gave a short speech based on the script they wrote and recorded it on their tablet computers. They also checked their peer’s speech through LoiloNote, a cloud system for supporting classes, which had already been installed on students’ tablet computers. After a brief lecture on some points that the author had noticed while browsing the students’ first drafts, they were required to rewrite the draft and record the second speech. Results show that compared to the mean number of words used on their first drafts, the mean number of words used for their second drafts increased to 87.4 words, with an additional 6.9 words. Moreover, on the second draft more students used the subjunctive mood in their writings, which was necessary for this subject.
