Additionally, the majority of the studies conducted data analysis utilizing task analysis guidelines that had previously been used to examine more communicative activities. The majority of the research had inadequate data analysis as a result. Four basic categories—contextualization, framing, goal-setting, and process planning—along with three minor categories—for a total of twelve minor categories—were established in this study. The top nine “Logic and Expression” textbooks that Tokyo prefectural senior high schools adopted in 2023, with a combined share of 68.6 percent, were the target textbooks. The findings reveal that a sizable fraction of the activities were classified as “exercises” or “drills,” which were mainly intended to help students learn grammatical points. On the other hand, it was discovered that very few exercises were made to help students develop communication skills in complex contexts.
